Accessible Museums for the Survival of Culture
September 2025 - May 2026
IZMIR
This project aims to conduct accessibility assessments at five museums operating in Izmir to support access to cultural life for individuals with disabilities. The project aims to share the resulting information with the public through the Tourism for All Association's website. It also aims to strengthen accessible narratives through training for museum staff and professional guides. User experience-based observations will be made through visits with participating groups with disabilities, and a workshop will be held at the end of the project to disseminate the findings. The project encompasses a 10-month effort to strengthen the cultural dimension of accessible travel.
Tourism for All Association
Founded in Izmir in 2013, the Tourism for All Association is a non-governmental organization that aims to strengthen the participation of individuals with disabilities in cultural life. Since its inception, it has conducted accessibility assessments in museums, cultural centers, and historical sites, developing numerous applications using Braille and tactile materials, sign language support, and accessible narrative techniques.
The association aims to make the cultural experiences of individuals with disabilities visible through projects it carries out with the philosophy of "Culture for Everyone." Documentaries prepared in this context have shared the experiences of individuals with disabilities in museums and cultural venues with the public, emphasizing that accessible culture is not only a right but also a social asset.
The association also encourages more active participation of individuals with disabilities in artistic and cultural life by organizing accessible festivals and cultural tours.
