The Bright Room

January - September 2026
Ordu

This project aims to address the lack of space and equipment for independent art production in Ordu, making photography more accessible and producible for all segments of society. With its long-standing history spanning over thirty years and successful management experience, such as the Taşbaşı Gallery, the Ordu Photography Art Association OFSAD (Ordu Fotoğraf Sanatı Derneği) aims to bring a professional touch to the city's cultural fabric. The project is not merely a temporary educational programme, but also a permanent artistic infrastructure development initiative that will serve the city's artistic memory.

Along with the project, the physical facilities at OFSAD Mekân will be improved, and a pool of equipment including professional cameras, lenses with various focal lengths, and high-resolution printing systems will be established. Inclusive workshops, which will be held within the framework of these technical resources, to introduce children to the art of photography for the first time, to enable young people to receive mentorship from expert artists, and to address all technical needs of members from the production phase to the exhibition. The artistic works produced as a result of the workshops will be shared with a wider audience through physical exhibition activities, which will be one of the project’s key outputs, and a modern institutional website.

By combining the technical equipment to be provided through grant funding with OFSAD’s interdisciplinary human resources, this project will establish an independent and permanent centre for photographic art in Ordu.

Ordu Photography Art Association

Since 1993, the Ordu Photography Art Association (OFSAD) has been one of the city’s most established arts organisations, having played an active role in Ordu’s cultural and artistic life. Operating entirely on a voluntary basis, it forms an interdisciplinary member structure comprising academics, professional photographers, poets, writers and painters. The association has contributed to the city’s independent art scene through the Taşbaşı Gallery, which it managed between 2012 and 2019; OFSAD now contributes nationwide to art organisations by holding a seat on the executive board of the Photographic Arts Federation of Türkiye, TFSF (Türkiye Fotoğraf Sanatı Federasyonu). OFSAD’s core mission is to promote photographic art and protect independent art production spaces, utilising its own resources and a strong team of volunteers.
