Melody Blooming in Nature

September 2025 - April 2026
HATAY

The ‘Melody Blooming in Nature’ project is an artistic initiative that aims to contribute to Hatay's post-earthquake cultural and social recovery process. As part of the project, children's and teachers' choirs within the Kırıkhan Gazella Gazella Culture and Arts Association will continue their musical work with regular weekly rehearsals; creative encounters where nature and art intersect will take place through monthly art workshops held in nature.

The children's choir aims to develop the artistic expression skills of children, one of the groups most affected by the earthquake, and to provide them with a safe space, while the teachers' choir will support the psychosocial recovery of teachers and serve as an inspiration to their students. At the end of the project, both choirs will hold a large concert with the people of Hatay, thus providing thousands of people with access to culture and art.

This project brings together the fields of ecology, children, cultural heritage and socio-cultural studies, and will be carried out on a platform where nature meets art, cultural memory is re-woven and social solidarity is strengthened. In the long term, ‘Melody Blooming in Nature’ aims to contribute to a community structure in Hatay that is in harmony with nature and strengthened by art.

Kırıkhan Gazella Gazella Culture and Arts Association

Kırıkhan Gazella Gazella Culture and Arts Association began its journey as an initiative in 2017 and continues with legal status acquired in 2024. Named after Gazella gazella, an elegant gazelle species native to the region, the association aims to make the connection between humans and nature visible through music. The association, which aims to preserve Hatay's ancient culture, particularly through folk music, and pass it on to future generations, has two choirs consisting of children and teachers.

The association has previously held concerts in Ankara and Hatay, reaching thousands of people. Seeing music as a path to healing after the 6 February 2023 earthquakes, the institution is strengthening social solidarity together with its partners, such as the Kırıkhan District Governor's Office, Kırıkhan Municipality, and Kırıkhan District National Education Directorate.
