Graffiti Art in Sakarya (GAiS)

December 2021 - November 2022
ADAPAZARI / SAKARYA

With its natural beauty, geographical location at the intersection of all main roads, increasing population and cosmopolitan social structure Sakarya is one of the most frequented centres of the region. Its multicultural structure causes social differentiation and positive/negative interactions. Especially the younger generation and children are highly affected by this change. Graffiti Art in Sakarya (GaiS) project aimed to reach young generations who are not aware of their talents, to enable them to carry out permanent works of graffiti and installation, and to lead young people to social interaction and cultural change.

Grafitti Art in Sakarya project aimed

  • to enable young people to gain aesthetic perspectives,
  • to direct children and young people who have the potential to be pushed into crime to areas where they can improve themselves and discover their talents,
  • to create art works for the idle areas of the city,
  • to draw attention to social problems in the city through art installations,
  • to help young people to shape their careers by revealing their artistic talents,
  • to carry out social art activities in order to include more art in daily social life.

Through the project

  • 50 young people were included.
  • Participants received trainings on basic arts, installation and graffiti.
  • Graffiti or installation works were carried out in idle spaces and convenient areas of the city/region.
  • The city was promoted.
  • Social experiments, a graffiti contest and a festival were held with public participation.
