Pink Life QueerFest Capacity Building
November 2023 - November 2024
ANKARA
Pink Life QueerFest has been Turkey’s first and only LGBTI+ themed film festival since 2011.
As part of this project, Pink Life LGBTI+ Solidarity Association archived the festival’s 12-year history and renewed the festival’s brand identity. Within this scope, 5 separate oral history documentaries were produced on the themes of the festival’s establishment, the period it was banned, its audience, its volunteer team and expectations from the festival. The documentaries reached more than eight hundred people with five screenings throughout the year.
A catalogue was prepared to collect twelve years of output and make it accessible with a single click. The catalogue includes all productions from the moment the festival started and can be accessed from the “Archive” tab on the festival’s website. Thanks to this work, the festival’s digital archive was created.
A series of brand renewal studies were carried out in order to increase the festival’s accessibility and to enter its thirteenth year by renewing its visual image: Logos and supporting materials appropriate to the festival’s values and target audience were produced. The new brand identity reached more than one million people via social media at the Ankara, Diyarbakır and Hatay festivals organized within the scope of the 13th KuirFest.
Pink Life LGBTI+ Solidarity Association
Being Turkey's first trans rights association, Pink Life LGBTI+ Solidarity Association was established in Ankara on June 30, 2006. Carrying out projects on matters such as discrimination, hate crimes, violence and social exclusion against trans people and providing direct support services, Pink Life LGBTI+ Solidarity Association continues its advocacy activities both nationally and internationally.
It continues its advocacy activities both in the parliament and at the international level in order to add gender identity and sexual orientation expressions into the Constitution and to end discrimination, and ensures that the necessary materials reach all parliamentarians in Turkey.
Pink Life provides free consultancy services on legal, educational, health and gender harmonization processes. It acts in solidarity with rights-based organizations and activists operating in aforesaid areas. Pink Life organizes the “Trans Camp” where trans people from Turkey come together to talk about their problems and seek solutions. In addition, Pink Life established a clothing bank in Eryaman in the name of Dilek İnce, who was killed by gangs during her struggle against gangs. Dilek İnce Clothing Bank supports LGBTI+ people in need, especially those in prisons, by sending them clothes every 3 months.
Pink Life also organizes Turkey's first LGBTI+ films festival, Pink Life QueerFest. While the festival draws attention to discrimination and violence against LGBTI+ individuals, it allows queer theory and art to be discussed in Turkey.
